Heenan takes Honda Sports Award for gymnastics

Georgia senior Katie Heenan was named the recipient of the 2008 Honda Sports Awards for gymnastics, the Collegiate Women's Sports Awards sponsored by Honda announced Tuesday. Heenan, fresh off helping the Gym Dogs to a fourth straight NCAA title, is the seventh Georgia gymnast to receive the honor and the second in a row, as Courtney Kupets was the 2007 winner.

1. Draft Dreams Antwaun Molden was selected 16th in the third round (79th overall pick) of the NFL draft this past weekend. The former Eastern cornerback is the first Colonel drafted in four years and is the highest draft pick from Eastern Kentucky University since Jason Dunn in 1996.

It's that time of the year; baseball is in full swing, talk of alternate endings to the Final Four are beginning to fade from people's minds and football is back in the limelight.

Eastern's 2008 spring game brought fans into Roy Kidd Stadium to watch the Colonel defense, called the maroon team, force eight turnovers on their way to a 50-29 victory over the offense, which was called the white team (see box below for points system).

Men's and women's tennis host NCAA first two rounds

The University men's and women's tennis teams were selected as first and second round host sites for the 2008 NCAA Tennis Championships. All matches will be held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, with the women's matches played May 9-10, while the men compete May 10-11.

It's early yet, but the Georgia football team is proving already to be tops in the Southeastern Conference. The annual release of the NCAA Academic Progress Rate report shows Georgia football players scoring a 965, best in the SEC. Georgia nudged Florida (962) and was in the 80th to 90th percentile in the sport.
